Don's Prepared Foods is the leading manufacturer on the East Coast of prepared gourmet deli salads, gourmet cream cheese spreads, dips, entrée's and more.

Don's is a family-owned business and manufactures over 130 products spanning across its three brands Don's Salads, Melanie's Medleys and Artisan Deli.

We are currently hiring for Food Production Workers (Salad Makers, Machine Operators, Salad Packers & Cooks) at our Schwenksville, PA food manufacturing plant..

Job responsibility Production Cook:

Start time for the Cook position is 3am, Monday-Friday (must be flexible with start and end times).

Make sure all ingredients that require cooking, blanching, and chilling are done in a manner that protects food safety, meets all Critical Control Points (CCP's), and make sure they are documented properly.

Prepare, cook/chill and properly label the food ingredients used in the production of the Don's Salads product line.

Follow internal recipes and production procedures to maintain the quality.

Defrost all ingredients necessary for the following days production.

Thoroughly clean and sanitize the kitchen especially for allergens between cooks and at the end of the day.

Ensure all USDA, FDA, SQF and HACCP regulations are fulfilled daily.

Job responsibility Production Salad Maker:

Start time for the Salad Maker position is 4-5am, Monday-Friday (must be flexible with start and end times).

Salad Makers must adhere to approved recipes in the formulation of finished products.

Must constantly scrutinize "in process" product that they are formulating for any irregularities. Notification of irregularities to management must be immediate.

Each Salad Maker must utilize the manufacturing instructions on recipe to ensure that all ingredients are added in the proper proportions and in correct order..

Highlight any variations on the recipe & let Raw Material Warehouse Coordinator know of variations.

Salad Makers measure the temperature of the finished salad / cream cheese (USDA CCP 1) before dipping and note that temperature in the appropriate location. Alert management of any product or ingredient above 40 degrees F.

Must ensure that all vessels containing ingredients are completely covered and properly labeled with product ID and date.

Must ensure their own safe and clean work environment.

Job responsibility Production Machine Operator:

Start time for the Machine Operator position is 4-5am, Monday-Friday (must be flexible with start and end times).

Perform a quality check on finished product appearance.

Daily inspection of the machine to make sure it is working properly, and no parts are missing or broken.

Monitor equipment throughout the day to ensure machine is operating properly and there are no malfunctions.

Communicate with maintenance if there is an immediate problem, otherwise complete a maintenance request form with the Production Manager.

Verify that the correct product label and code date is on the container. Immediately discard any extra labels.

If count is short double check new labels for correct product and code date.

Ensure that the membrane seal is intact on each container and perform a test to make sure that the seal is being applied correctly.

Verify that the heat seal temperature is correct.

Document all information for each salad packed on the Machine Operator Checklist daily and turn in to the Production Office.

Conduct metal detector calibration checks and immediately report any issues to QA.

Report production in company ERP system.

Must ensure their own safe and clean work environment.

Competencies:

Ability to read, write, comprehend, in English and follow recipes and understand proportions.

Must have cooking knowledge and terminology.

Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOP).

Ability to follow recipes and understand portions.

Ability to weigh and read a scale accurately. Ability to perform and understand basic math calculations

Requirements

Must be able to lift 40 to 50 pounds consistently.

Employee stands for long periods of time.

Cook room is hot, production areas are 34 to 38 degrees.

Be able to push, pull and mix product.
