Introduction

About the Position:
The full-time Recreation Leader II at the Vista del Camino Community Center is an assignment specific to food bank duties where the work schedule can vary depending on the needs of the facility. This position requires flexibility between the days of Monday-Friday and within the operational hours of 8:00am-5:00pm and does not require working holidays. This position provides excellent customer service to the public by responding to the needs of Scottsdale residents by fulfilling food box appointments and interacting with clients daily. Additionally, this position requires the ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds and operate a motorized vehicle for food pickups and other equipment. Experience with coordination of programs and services as well as with the utilization of a personal computer for inputting into a client database and for the creation of reports, is highly preferred. The ability to acquire a food and safety handlers' card upon hire is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • No education required for this position.
  • A minimum of six months experience in a customer service position.

Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Successfully complete driving training, first aid, and safety classes.
  • A valid food handler's license ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire or promotion is required for the Concessions Assignment.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/section assignment.

Essential Functions

• Communicates effectively in person and on the telephone with patrons and/or program participants.
• Functionally observes volunteers, paid staff, and contract workers.
• Sets up, tears down, and cleans up for special events, projects, and programs.
• Uses personal computer to prepare quality written documents including accident and incident reports, event flyers, emails, and electronic timesheet.
• Drives a motor vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver materials for special events and programs.
• Leads a team or project including coordinating daily activities of staff.
• May be expected to 'stand in' in the absence of management.

  • Move objects up to 50 pounds a long distance (greater than 20 ft.), such as setting up tables, sound and lighting equipment, booth frames, and lifting trash bags.
  • For some assignments, be able to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, stand for long periods of time, requiring repetitive arm/hand movement.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  • Visual and muscular dexterity to enter data or information into a terminal, personal computer, or other keyboard device.
  • Operate a motorized vehicle.
