The Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (JCAST) is one of eight colleges/schools at Fresno State. The Department of Food Science and Nutrition is one of six departments in JCAST. Students majoring within the department are prepared for a wide range of professions in the food industry and nutrition field. Located within the center of one of the world's most productive growing and processing region, the department is ideally situated to provide food science and culinology students with both a strong academic and practical experience.
We are delighted to announce a full-time, academic-year, tenure-track assistant professor position in Food Science, commencing on August 19, 2024. An ideal candidate should have a broad educational background in food science, encompassing expertise in food engineering, unit operations, and physical/sensory properties of foods and their intricate connections with food product development and safety. The primary teaching responsibilities for this candidate will focus on food engineering, dairy and food processing, and possible sensory evaluation. Additionally, the candidate will have opportunities to instruct undergraduate and graduate courses, which may encompass subjects such as introductory food science, food packaging, and specialized areas like dairy/dairy alternatives, and meat science. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):
Doctorate degree in Food Science or a related field. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, for appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2024
Demonstrated experience and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate student-centered learning and teaching. Proven track record of being a productive team player and successfully interacting with peers, students, industry professionals, government agencies, California industry, and the public. Documented commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Demonstrated ability to initiate, complete, secure external funding. Demonstrated ability to publish research.
Experience in quality assurance/control, food processing, and food safety. Industry and/or regulatory/governmental agencies experience. Record of excellence in teaching and research. Experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.

Commensurate with education and experience the anticipated hiring range is $7,400-$7,700 per month for Assistant Professor (12 monthly payments per academic year). As a member of the 23-campus CSU System, we offer an extremely competitive benefits package.
